How we show course fees in your local currency.

Every tuition fee on Coursefind is converted from the university's official billing currency to your local currency — automatically, based on your location. Here's exactly how that works, what data we use, and what to double-check before you apply.

The short version

If you only read one thing on this page.

We detect your country from your IP address and show the tuition fee in your local currency — so you see an amount that's instantly meaningful to you.

TL;DR

Fees are converted in two hops: source currency → USD → your local currency.

Every course fee in our database is stored in the currency the university actually charges in (AUD for Australian universities, GBP for UK, CAD for Canada, EUR for most of Europe, USD for the United States, and so on). When you land on Coursefind, we detect your country from your IP address and convert that fee to your local currency using Google's published exchange rates.

  • Rates refresh every 5 days, or sooner when there's a significant currency movement.
  • If we can't map your country to a supported local currency, fees fall back to USD.
  • Displayed fees are indicative — always confirm the exact amount with the university before applying.

The conversion pipeline

From university billing to your screen — in three steps.

Each fee passes through a fixed pipeline. USD sits in the middle as the common reference, which keeps conversion predictable and auditable.

01

Source currency captured.

We record each course's tuition in the currency the university itself uses on its website — AUD, GBP, CAD, EUR, USD, and others. This is the amount the student will actually be invoiced for.

AUD 45,500 / year
02

Converted to USD.

The source amount is converted to US dollars using Google's current exchange rate. USD acts as our internal reference — every fee in the database has a matching USD equivalent.

AUD × 0.65 → USD 29,575
03

Converted to your currency.

On page load, we detect your country from your IP and convert USD to your local currency (e.g. INR, AED, NPR). If your country isn't supported, the fee stays in USD.

USD × 80 → ₹23,66,000

Rate freshness

How often we refresh exchange rates.

The rule

Every 5 days, or sooner on major currency movements.

Exchange rates fluctuate constantly, but refreshing every minute would make the displayed fee feel inconsistent — you'd see a different number every time you refreshed the page. A 5-day cadence keeps fees stable enough to compare across courses, while still being current enough to be trustworthy.

If a currency you're viewing from moves more than roughly 2% against USD in a single day, we pull an early update so the displayed amount doesn't drift from reality.

Source: Google's published currency exchange rates (via Google Finance). We don't set our own rates or add a spread.

Refresh triggers

Scheduled refresh Every 5 days — applies to the full rate table for all supported currencies.
Volatility trigger Early refresh when a supported currency moves ≥ 2% against USD within 24 hours.
Manual override Our team can force a refresh at any time — used only for material events (central bank announcements, pegs being removed, etc.).

Important

What the displayed fee does not mean.

Coursefind is a discovery tool — not a payment processor, and not an official fee quote. Please read the following carefully before making any financial decisions.

Not a fixed quote

The number you see is an approximation, generated from a recent exchange rate. The amount you actually pay will be whatever the university invoices in their billing currency on the day you pay.

Rates change between refresh and payment

Currency markets move daily. Between the moment you view a fee on Coursefind and the moment you transfer funds to the university, the real rate will almost certainly have shifted.

Universities change their fees too

Institutions can revise tuition annually — or mid-year in some cases. We update course records on a regular cycle, but there may be a lag between a university publishing a new fee and it appearing on Coursefind.

Tuition only — nothing else

The displayed figure covers tuition for the course as listed. It does not include application fees, visa fees, health insurance, accommodation, travel, living costs, textbooks, or any additional charges (labs, studios, placements).

We don't process payments

Coursefind never handles money. All tuition is paid directly to the university via whichever method they accept (bank transfer, card, or their own payment gateway).

IP detection isn't perfect

VPNs, corporate proxies, or satellite connections can cause us to misidentify your location. If the displayed currency looks wrong, it's most likely because your IP resolved to a different country than you expected.

Frequently asked

Questions about fees and currency.

Why is my fee showing in USD instead of my local currency?

One of two reasons. Either your country isn't in our supported currency list yet (we default to USD in that case), or our IP-based location detection couldn't reliably identify your country — often because you're using a VPN, a corporate proxy, or a network that routes through a different region.

Try accessing Coursefind without a VPN. If the currency still looks wrong, your country may not yet be supported — we add new regions regularly.

Can I manually change the display currency?

Not yet. Currency display is automatic, based on your IP. A manual currency picker is on our roadmap — if you need a different currency urgently, open the course on the university's own website, which will always show fees in the source currency.

Why does the same course show a slightly different fee when I visit again?

Exchange rates refresh every 5 days. If you visit before and after a refresh, the displayed amount will shift slightly to reflect the new rate. The university's underlying fee (in its own currency) hasn't changed — only the converted display value.

Is the fee I see the fee I'll actually pay?

No. The amount we show is indicative. Your final invoice comes from the university, in their billing currency, at their current rates — which may differ from what Coursefind displayed. Always confirm the exact, current fee directly with the university before applying or making financial commitments.

What about GST, VAT, or other taxes?

The fee shown is tuition only, as published by the university. Some countries apply GST, VAT, or other levies on international education services — these are not included in the Coursefind display. Check directly with the university for the total tax-inclusive cost.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Google's published currency exchange rates, accessed via Google Finance. We don't apply any markup, spread, or conversion fee — the number you see is a direct conversion using Google's mid-market rate at the last refresh.

Real-world banks and money transfer services typically charge a spread on top of the mid-market rate, so the effective rate when you actually send money to the university will usually be slightly worse than what's shown here.

What happens when a currency is volatile?

If a supported currency moves more than about 2% against USD within 24 hours, we pull an early rate refresh so the displayed fees don't drift too far from reality. For extreme events (central bank announcements, policy changes, currency peg changes), our team can force a manual refresh.

I think a fee looks wrong. How do I report it?

Check the university's own website first — if the source fee we have on file is outdated, we'd like to know. Email us at the contact address listed in the site footer with the course name, the university, and the correct fee along with a link to its source.

Will a manual currency picker be added?

Yes — it's on our roadmap. The plan is to let visitors override the IP-detected currency with any supported option, including viewing fees in the source currency (so you'd see the raw AUD / GBP / CAD number the university itself charges).

Policy review cadence. This policy is reviewed each quarter. If we change how currency detection, conversion, refresh cadence, or the fallback logic works, the update is reflected on this page and flagged in our next product update note.
